Jack Cooley from Notre Dame has earned StatSheet's Big East Player of the Week award for February 13th. Ryan Boatright from Connecticut has earned StatSheet's Big East Freshman of the Week. And finally, Syracuse's C.J. Fair has received StatSheet's Big East 6th Man of the Week. Cooley put up respectable numbers with 80% shooting, 21.5 points per game, and 13 rebounds per game. The Notre Dame junior played well in wins against West Virginia and DePaul.
Cooley led the Fighting Irish in scoring and rebounding with 21 points and 12 rebounds in a close 55-51 win over West Virginia. He followed that up with a team-leading 22 points and 14 rebounds in an 84-76 victory over DePaul.
This is the first time this season that Jack Cooley has been selected StatSheet Big East Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Kevin Jones, a senior from West Virginia. Honorable mention goes to Syracuse sophomore C.J. Fair. Cleveland Melvin finished 13th and was the highest ranking player from DePaul.
StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week: Connecticut's Ryan Boatright
Ryan Boatright averaged 36 minutes of playing time as a starter for Connecticut. In an 80-59 loss to Louisville, Boatright led the Huskies in scoring with 18 points and added 5 assists. Following that in an 85-67 loss to Syracuse, he put up 14 points and 5 assists.
This is a new honor for Ryan Boatright, the first time he has won StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week. JayVaughn Pinkston from Villanova grabs runner-up. Otto Porter from Georgetown takes honorable mention.
StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week: Syracuse's C.J. Fair
Sophomore C.J. Fair, a 6-8 reserve forward, averaged 38 minutes of action over two games for the Orange. In a close 64-61 win over Georgetown, Fair led all Orange in rebounding with 9 and contributed 2 blocked shots. After that, in an 85-67 win over Connecticut, he led all rebounding with 12 and added 75% shooting.
This makes 4 times that C.J. Fair has won the StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week award this season. Dion Waiters, a sophomore guard from Syracuse, is the runner up. Mike Poole, a sophomore guard/forward from Rutgers, earns honorable mention. The highest ranking 6th man from DePaul was Donnavan Kirk who finished 6th. DePaul players have not yet been named StatSheet Big East Player of the Week this season.
